89th Key has a unique
variety of teachers, each with their own passion for music
Addie has been teaching at the 89th Key since 2016. She is studying at Webster University for a BA in Music Composition. Addie has 10 years of Choral and performance experience. She teachers piano, voice, ukulele, and music theory. She loves popcorn, and can't wait to teach you as much music as possible!
Jordan has been playing piano since she was in diapers (taking lessons from her mom/the owner herself!). She incorporates a mixture of classical and pop music in to her playing. Along with teaching piano, she continues to take piano and drum lessons at 89th Key.
Jordan is currently attending graduate school for a degree in Art Therapy. Jordan loves to teach children, beginners, or anyone who doesn’t know how fun piano can be. During her lessons, students can expect to be assigned pieces that improve their technical skills along with a song of their choice just for fun. There is never a dull moment in Jordan’s classroom because there are incentives to do the boring stuff and fun songs to keep the students hooked. If you’re a student looking to learn and have fun at the same time, Jordan is the perfect teacher for you!
Olivia Vaughn is currently studying Music Education and Vocal Performance at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She has a lot of knowledge regarding music theory and sight reading techniques. She currently sings in two groups at UMSL that perform around the St. Louis area. She sings soprano in Vocal Point, a small a cappella choir, and soprano in University Singers, a larger choir. Both choirs give free concerts at the Touhill Center every Fall and Spring. Playing piano and singing are her two favorite things to do!
able to see various teaching methods from all of her teachers, and has incorporated that in to how she teaches here at 89th Key. She was a part of the National Fraternity of Student Musicians for seven years. Her main goal is to convey that music lessons do not have to be boring, and that playing music is fun and enjoyable! Other than teaching at 89th Key, Lauren is pursuing a degree in Biology/Animal Science to work with exotic animals in the future.
James took over the responsibilities of studio manager in the spring of 2019 and now works for the studio full-time. Feel free to ask him any questions you have and let him know how to help!
James graduated from Greenville University in 2016 with a BS in Commercial Music. He has 15 years of performance experience in all types of drum set and percussion, and enjoys teaching kids how fun (and challenging) drums can be. He has also played guitar since he was 16 and took multiple years of theory and piano during his collegiate career.
Bunny Guard on Duty
Janie Struckman is the owner and founder of 89th Key Music Studio. She graduated from Webster University with a bachelors degree in music with emphasis in piano pedagogy.
She loves kids, piano, teaching and thinks that learning to play music should be an inspiring experience and journey as opposed to a torturous right of passage bestowed upon the children in our society. 89th Key was born of her passion for music and a wish to share this gift with others.
Joplin, a proud ragtime rabbit, spends countless hours representing the studio and protecting its hardworking students. By day, he's just a casual bunny whose big ears can detect a good tune from a mile away, but by night he hops around the studio, detecting and destroying anything that may distract 89th Key students from practicing. Joplin loves his job, especially when his students reward his efforts with yummy treats!
October Desk Manager
Skully is an expert at dueling banjos and comes to 89th Key during October to entertain parents and students with his music!
Lauren has been playing piano since she was six years old and has had multiple different music teachers while moving around the U.S. and Europe. She has been
